About a year ago, I aquired a Concealed Weapon Permit. Recently, I got to thinking there might come a time that I might have to defend myself with force. This gave me food for thought.
I can see scenarios where a threat or assault might be thwarted with force less than lethal. That being said, I began investigating the legality of carrying a telescopic baton. I've spoken with several Law Enforcement Officers, including two from SC SLED. None of these officers were clear on the legality of a CWP holding citizen carrying a baton. However, ALL were highly in favor of a citizen using blunt force rather than lethal force in self defense.
I have written to the state Attorney General's office asking for clarification on this. To date, I have not received a response. My next step is to call Regulatory Dept. at SLED.
